EKSU: JAC III Commend Oyebanji’s Clarifications Over Unions’ Unpaid Salaries, Provision Of Electricity

Ekiti State Governor, His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji during a live radio programme (Meet Your Governor) recently in Ado Ekiti cleared the airs and unraveled the circumstances surrounding the unpaid salaries of workers in Ekiti State University.

Oyebanji stated that only a month subvention from 2018 is owed Ekiti State University by the state government. Which implies that the Government has fulfilled her obligations to the University.

The Joint Action Committee of the 3 Non-Teaching Staff Unions on campus, JAC III have before now, shown understanding with the Management of the University on the belief that the University still has 2months’ subvention in 2018 and another 2months in 2023 pending with the Ekiti State Government.

JAC III however confirmed that only a month subvention from 2018 is owed Ekiti State University by the state government.

JAC III appreciate the Governor for the clarification, and more especially on the promise that the subvention is expected to be disbursed within the next two weeks.

“We hence use this medium to inform management of the need to defray our outstanding salaries from November 2023 to date, failure upon which continuous industrial harmony, as being currently enjoyed in the University, cannot be guaranteed from Thursday, 1st February, 2024,” a member of JAC said.

Our members cannot continue to suffer in the name of understanding of the precarious financial state of the University, when such is not likely the case.

Information from the record revealed that the government is owing the University four month arrears of subvention ( 2 outstanding months in 2018 November and December 2023)
Confirmed by the SSANU Chairman and the JAC III Chairman, Comrade Temidayo Azeez Aguda, also the NASU Chairman Comrade Kola Olajutemu and NAAT Chairman Comrade Mary Adeosun.

In the same vein, the university Unions otherwise known as JAC III also shown their appreciation to the amiable  governor of the state, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for the extension of electricity to the university through the Independent Power Plant.

In a statement jointly signed by SSANU, NASU and NAAT Chairmen, the union leaders explained that the gesture of the Governor would enhance research, teaching, learning and administrative activities.

According to them, the importance of stable electricity in any tertiary institution cannot be quantified.

The JAC III leaders noted that the development had further attested to the fact that Governor Oyebanji has immeasurable passion for academic excellence.

They promised the readiness of members of staff to ensure proper maintenance of the facility and remain committed in their services so as to justify the expenses of government in the institution.

The union leaders however appealed to the Governor to ensure the reinstatement of some members of staff who were sacked few years ago.

They noted that, though, some of them have been taken back, few others who are left behind should be reinstated.

Similarly, the union leaders congratulated management of the school and the visitor to the university, Governor Oyebanji for the recent approval of ten new important courses by the National University Commission.
