Theme: Ikeja Local Government subsidized food market, to support the good people of Ikeja LG and ease them from this hardship facing the economy, so the Local Government deemed it fits to stage 4 days programme to alleviate the people and the business men and women of Ikeja LG, when the Vice Chairman of the Ikeja Local Government area Alhaji Yomi Musibau Mayungbe, who addressed the crowd on how the purchasing will go for easy movement, purchase and enables everybody to be a partake of today’s programme, because there is more than a enough that will go round everybody, if we could do it in orderleness and comply with the rules of the purchases, moreso that this exercise is lasting for four days and will be rounding up on Sunday, the Vice Chairman insisted on orderleness to achieve the purpose of today business, while he made them to understand one purchase for each person and not to come back for a second time please to aids others to buy. The Vice Chairman kicked start the event by selling to the first person that came to buy, Mrs. Abimbola, who appreciated the state government and the LG for this laudable initiative and relief they have brought to Ikeja people with resounding prayers with wishes that the Local Government Council could continue to display this kind gesture every week or twice every month, like olive twist, the Local Government Council, Chairman speaks that it’s okay but they will see to it as time goes by, because the happiness of the good people of Ikeja is their joy and it makes us to strive for the betterment and good of this council. Like he said the Local Government area brought this items at a higher price but to sale at a discounted rate like the rice you can get it for 7, 000 was sold for 3, 500, tuber of yam you can get for 3, 500 been sold for 1,500, palm oil half gallon been sold out there for 2, 800, is sold for 1, 500, garri that is sold for 2,800, was sold for 1, 400,
brown beans, white beans, peppers, tomatoes, onions etc. The Chairman of the Local Government Council, opened the floor of purchase by buying all available items on the stands, buy as you obeys the rules of orderleness to ensure easy flow one purchases each. It was a wonderful experience seeing the needs that this exercise came out at when deserve and wanted, no buyer left without a word to the state governmentin and the local level..

Good morning sir, may we get to meet with you for the public sake?
My name is Hon. Mojeed Alabi Balogun, the executive Chairman of Ikeja local government area.
What prompted this initiatives to the good people of Ikeja LG at this time of hardship?
It is situation of the country, this is the second phase the first phase was equally given to the communities and the stakeholders we bought it at a higher rates and it was subsidized for 67% of what we ought to sell but this time around we are going for 50% on each items, so the hardship is prompting us to compliment the federal government effort in bringing subsidized food markets to my good people of Ikeja LG,
Sir, we have talked to many people and they have shown appreciation on this laudable act in your LG, what you have done and they wants this food markets to be a continuous exercise, how regular can we expect this kind of 50% off from food markets?
Yes! We said it should be frequent but we wants the nation to stabilise, once the nation stabilise we will go back to status quo because nobody wants hardship to be a continuous one, I just purchased and I believe by the time I get it home my wife will be able to quantify what the items worth in the market, I don’t know market price indices for now but women knows better, so we just pray like the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been doing you can see there is drastic fall in the dollars everybody we say is dollars but this time around the dollar is falling i’m sure it will cut across all nook and cranny of the economy.
What advice do you have for people that are complaining out there?
People should always look at things that we are less in production we complaining because we no longer go to farm, we only depend on crude oil, let’s everybody go back to farming, gone are those days when we have garden’s in our various houses but today none, majority of the Omonile have sold all the land, for residential purposes no one left for farming those are part of the problems we are facing in terms of agriculture, I was addressing some of the elders yesterday because I told them you are all chief of the community why not leave some of your lands for farming instead of selling everything when you go to coco board there is no coco its just being residential for animals, so we should all be encouraged to go back to farming.

Why did the Council deem it fit to come out with this initiatives at this time the country is facing Economic hardship
You have said it all,apart from the directives from the State Government that we should compliment their efforts the Council deemed it necessary that the economy situation in the country as at now require support of Government at our local levels that was what prompted us to come up with the palliatives for the residents and those doing businesses within Ikeja communities
Sir, this palliatives what is the duration
The duration for the palliatives is for 4 days,we are starting today Wednesday, tomorrow again from 10÷4pm each day we are having break on Friday by Saturday we wil return back and round up on Sunday
Is it possible for those that bought today to come back tomorrow
No oooo I once said that earlier that when you have brought today you can not come back til next phase so that others wil be allow to buy too we are targeting 5,000 residents within our community here but if you buy twice you are short changing some people which we dont want that to happen
Sir, is it going to be monthly programme
For now I can’t say that but as we get more funds we will make sure we try our best to do necessary thing
for our people because that is why they elected us
What is the advice you have for Nigerians generally on the need for them to be patience, most people are always complaining of the current condition of the country
My appeal is to be patient with this Government and I know President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will make sure that the ugly trend now will be reversed. He is an Economy Wizard, I believe in him, if they are patient with the Government of President Bola Tinubu very soon things wil come normal
Sir, could you please share more light on the dollar that has come down but not reflecting in our market place
Thank you very much for that question, for about 2-3 weeks now dollars as reduce nobody is saying anything about it, but when it was very high people where saying a lots of things about it, even it’s not reflecting in our general market.
