Police have arrested three of the fleeing suspected armed robbers who killed one person during an attack at the Abeokuta phone market in Ogun State.

DAILY POST recalls that the armed men invaded the phone market, popularly known as Tarmarc, on April 12, killing one of the traders, Dayo Bankole, and carting away many expensive phones. One of the robbers, Sakiru Adeniji, was arrested at the scene of the crime, while others escaped.

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, identified the suspects as Ajayi Kayode, Habeeb Idowu, and Temitayo Oresanya.

Policemen from Kemta Division arrested the suspects following a tip-off that the suspects were hibernating in the Abule Ake area of Abeokuta to evade arrest.

Upon receiving the information, the DPO of Kemta Division, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle, mobilised his men to the scene where the three were nabbed.

“Two amongst the suspects have confessed their participation in the robbery incident, while the third, Temitayo Oresanya, who affirmed to be a member of the same cult group with them, claimed he did not participate in the robbery attack,” Oyeyemi said.

Oresanya told the police that the two others came to his house “to hide from the police after their robbery escapade.”

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State CIID. He also directed that the remaining members of the gang be arrested and brought to book.
