In a commendable display of coordinated efforts, the Anambra Joint Security Force, led by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and supported by military and paramilitary services, conducted a successful operation to dismantle an insurgent camp located in Ogbunka, Orumba South Local Government Area.
The operation, which took place on October 6, 2023, yielded significant results, including the rescue of three hostages, the apprehension of three suspects, and the recovery of weapons and stolen vehicles.
According to an official statement signed the Anambra State Police Command Spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga noted that the security operation resulted in the safe rescue of three individuals who had been abducted, including a revered Reverend Father. All hostages were found to be unharmed, a testament to the precision and professionalism displayed by the security personnel.
During the operation, the security forces successfully recovered three Pump Action Guns and nine vehicles that had been snatched at gunpoint by the insurgents. This achievement is a significant blow to the criminal activities of the gang and a step towards restoring peace in the affected areas.
DSP Ikenga also noted that three suspects linked to the insurgent activities were apprehended during the operation. Their arrest is expected to aid ongoing investigations into the criminal network responsible for a series of abductions in Orumba North and South, as well as parts of Aguata Local Government Areas.
In addition to the weapons and vehicles, the security forces also seized stolen camouflage uniforms, a Biafra flag, several mobile handsets, flash drives, and SIM cards. These items are anticipated to be crucial in the comprehensive investigation and subsequent prosecution of those involved in criminal activities.
The successful raid on the insurgent camp was the result of months of diligent and painstaking intelligence gathering and investigation. This extensive effort led to the identification and exposure of the criminal hideout, underscoring the commitment of the security agencies to combatting criminality in the state.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, commended the service personnel and vigilante groups involved in the operation for their professionalism and the successful rescue of the hostages without any loss of life.
The Governor of Anambra State also praised the operatives and pledged continued support for all services engaged in joint security operations across the state.
