…Promises To Boost Nation’s Economy
A team of management staff from the West African Container Terminal (WACT), has payed a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council in PortHarcourt, the Rivers State capital.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Glory Onojedo, the Zonal Coordinator of Nigerian Shippers’ Council, South-Soth Zone, thanked the management team of WACT for finding time to pay him and his management team a courtesy visit.
He used the medium to enumerate on his challenges while trying to visit and assess some of the facilities in WACT, as part of their official mandate, pointing out that the excuses that were given at the point of entrance to WACT office, were like deliberate efforts to prevent the council from entering and assessing WACT activities at Onne Seaport.
While acknowledging some of the challenges that were being faced at Onne, which include but not limited to roads that are currently being fixed according to him, Mr. Onojedo lauded WACT for providing shelter for agencies and other stakeholders operating at Onne Seaport, as well as its newly introduced initiative known as Container Freight Station (CFS).
On its recently launched Online Registration Portal for port operators and users, Mr. Onojedo opined that the essence of the registration portal is for Nigerian Shippers’ Council to know the real players across the ports, pointing out that a time would come when those players that are not registered or recognized by Shippers’ Council will not have access to the ports across the nation, adding that the essence of regulation is to ensure compliance.
Responding, Mr. Innocent Ogbuji, General Manager, Government Relations, WACT, who led the delegation of WACT management team on the visit, said that the essence of their visit was to inform the Council that WACT recently reshuffled its management team, hence the need to come and introduce the new team to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council.
Mr. Ogbuji who spoke on the digitalized nature of WACT’s operations at the Onne Port, among others, lauded Mr. Glory Onojedo for being supportive to WACT, and used the visit to proffer solutions on the issues of non access to WACT, among others that were raised by Mr. Onojedo, for onward unlimited access and communication with WACT.
The duo of Mr. Jeethu Jose, the new Managing Director and Mr. Ismaila Badjie, Commercial Manager, WACT, among other team staff, who expressed their heartfelt gratitudes on the visit, gave their respective responses on some of the issues that were raised at the visit, which hinged on mutual working relationship, seamless operations and working in synergy to boost the economy of the country.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Patricia Osuma, Director, Public Relations, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, who commended Mr. Jeethu Jose, the MD of WACT and his management team for such a wonderful visit, reguested to have more of such collaborative meetings from time to time, to enhance on their respective work performances.
High points of the visit include: introduction of the two management teams and signing of the visitors’ register by Mr. Jeethu Jose.
