Yesterday night, Thursday, at the prestigious landmark event centre in New Owerri, Friends of the #PeoplesGovernor of Imo State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma under the aegies of FRIENDS OF HOPE during a fund raising dinner raised over ₦2b within (3) three hours to support the governor’s campaign for re-election.
Making a brief speech to herald the fund raising event, a former governor of Imo state, His Excellency Chief Ikedi Ohakim said the event was for friends of Hope Uzodimma as a person and not friends of his office or the office he presently occupies.
Speaking further, the former governor said the event was a demonstration of the saying that a friend in need is a friend indeed and as true friends of the Hope Uzodimma, they would be supporting him not just with words of mouth alone but with cash material support to aid in his re-election campaigns.
Under the chairmanship of the Senator representing Imo West Senatorial district, Distinguished Senator Osita Izunaso during his remarks stated that they, as friends of Hope Uzodimma are pleased with the good works he has done in his first term in office and as true friends of him, they are going to support his re-election campaigns not just with material supports but with cash donations to aid the governor in prosecution of his re-election into office for a second term.
After the brief speeches of the organisers, cash donations in millions of naira which culminated into billions of naira started rolling in.
Opening the donation night was high Chief Mike Ejiogu, the Traditional Prime Minister of Anara ancient kingdom who donated the sum of ₦30m for himself, family, friends and groups of companies. While making the donation he said that he was moved to support the governor’s re-election campaign because he has performed creditably well most especially for the construction of the Owerri Okigwe road which was hittertho impassable for many years.
Remarkable among them were cash donations from businessmen like Chief Tony Chukwu and Prince Charles Amadi who donated for their selves, friends and groups of companies the sum of ₦100m each followed by High Chief Johnbosco Ozigbo and Hon. Dr. Paschal Okechukwu (Cubana Chief Priest) who donated on behalf of their selves, friends groups of companies ₦50m each.
For Chyna Iwuanyanwu foundation led by Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, they donated the sum of ₦10m while the Nkwerre dynasty and friends led by Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie and Nze Chinaza Nwaneri donated the sum of ₦30m followed by High Chief Akunaesiobike of Ihitte Afoukwu who on behalf of himself, friends and groups of companies donated the sum of ₦10m.
The serving commissioners under administration represented by the Attorney General of the state and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. C. O. C Akaolisa donated the sum of ₦5m while the 27 Solads donated ₦1m each followed by the 27 members of Imo State House of Assembly who on their behalf and friends donated the sum of ₦30m.
Showing appreciation for choosing his wife Lady Chinyere Ekomaru as his running mate, the husband to the incoming Deputy Governor, Chief Chukwuma Ekomaru (SAN) who was visibly elated was full of thanks to the #PeoplesGovernor as he doled out the sum of ₦10m on behalf of himself, family and friends while Chief Perry Opara, The President General of Oluoha Mbaise General Assembly while donating the sum of ₦5m on behalf of the five clans of Mbaise said that they resolved to support the re-election of the governor in appreciation of the ongoing construction of the Mbaise Umuahia road.
Also on the donation list was the state party chairman, Sir. Ebere Macdonald PhD who on behalf of himself, family and friends donated the sum of ₦10m while Engr. Chizitere Ahubelem on behalf of himself and the student community donated the sum of ₦1m (cash) among other many hundreds of donors from eminent personalities whose donations ran into hundreds of millions of naira.
Reacting, the People’s Governor of Imo state Senator Uzodimma who was obviously speechless and dumbfounded at the massive show of love of support by his friends thanked them for coming out to show him love noting that he was encouraged by the rare feats as he is even encouraged to continue to give his best in service rendering to the state.
