The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced that 14 of its officers, comprising 11 senior and 3 junior personnel, will face disciplinary proceedings for allegations of extortion and high-handed conduct. The disciplinary action is in line with the established rules and regulations of the state.
Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager of LASTMA, confirmed that these officers, following a thorough investigation, will be presented before the Government Disciplinary Committee, known as the Personnel Management Board (PMB) Discipline, to have their cases adjudicated according to the Public Service Rules.
“These 14 male officers were apprehended at various locations across the state for engaging in extortion, where they unlawfully collected money (bribes) from motorists,” Mr. Oreagba stated.
The agency is determined to maintain strict discipline and enforce appropriate penalties on officers who engage in misconduct, thereby safeguarding the agency’s reputation.
“We call upon residents, especially the motoring public, to support us by promptly reporting any errant officers to the nearest LASTMA offices or by using the agency’s complaints hotlines (08100565860, 08129928503, 08129928515, and 08129928597) with supporting evidence,” urged the General Manager.
Mr. Oreagba also advised all LASTMA officers to carry out their duties without bias in compliance with the laws governing the authority. He cautioned that any operative found tarnishing the image of the agency or the government will face the appropriate consequences.
While acknowledging the dedication, diligence, and professionalism of LASTMA officials, Mr. Oreagba issued a stern warning to the motoring public, urging them to refrain from attempting to bribe traffic personnel, as both the giver and receiver are subject to legal repercussions.
