Customs CG Signs MoU With FRSC, Vows To Curtail Vehicle Smuggling Through Data Sharing

In a significant move toward enhancing cross-agency collaboration, the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi inked a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday, 3rd October 2023. The focus of this partnership is the automated data sharing of vehicle registration information.

The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Abuja, where the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs, joined by Corps Marshal Dauda Ali, put pen to paper, solidifying their commitment to streamlined information exchange.

Addressing the audience, the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs emphasized that this collaboration marks a significant stride toward unity between the two agencies. He highlighted the pivotal role this agreement would play in preventing revenue leakages, stating, “The MoU will facilitate seamless collaboration, enhance operational efficiency, ensure compliance, and encourage innovative problem-solving.”

During his address, the Customs Chief outlined various focal points of the collaboration, including resource optimization, road safety initiatives, revenue generation, and the comprehensive documentation of vehicles.

In response, Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biyu praised the dedication of the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs in facilitating the MoU. He assured the Customs Chief of the FRSC’s unwavering commitment to partnering in combating smuggling, revenue leakages, theft, and other social crimes. Emphasizing the importance of data sharing, he highlighted the positive outcomes expected from this collaborative effort.

To underscore the unity of purpose and mutual cooperation, the Corps Marshal took a step further by conferring an honorary title upon the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR was appointed as a Special Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, symbolizing their shared commitment to ensuring road safety and curtailing illicit activities related to vehicle smuggling.
