All you need to know about Singer Mohbad until his death

Mohbad: In a devastating turn of events, the Nigerian music industry and fans worldwide are mourning the untimely passing of 27-year-old artist, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad.

The news of his death, which occurred on Tuesday, September 12th, 2023, has left many in shock, as the cause remains shrouded in mystery, prompting calls for an autopsy to unravel the truth behind the tragedy.

Popular influencer and medical doctor, Aproko Doctor, tweeted:

“An autopsy should and must be done. We need to stop these “mysterious” deaths.”

Mohbad had been gaining significant recognition in the Nigerian music scene for his unique style and resonant voice. His promising career was on the ascent, making his sudden demise all the more heart-wrenching for fans and peers alike.

The enigmatic circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death have fueled speculations and left a void in the hearts of those who appreciated his talent.

While numerous theories and conjectures abound, the official cause of his passing remains unknown at this time.
Although, the singer had mentioned incessantly that there was a threat to his life by his former label boss, Naira Marley.

He once posted a video after being allegedly assaulted by his ex-label boss and other artists. In his words,

“If I die, na Naira Marley kill me”.

Not left out, he had lamented being denied access to promotional shows because the show promoters didn’t want to have issues with his former manager, Marlian Records.

It is also safe to mention that he was also a hypertensive patient. Mohbad once tweeted;

“I’m not intoxicated but I’ve just been diagnosed as an emergency hypertensive patient. I’m not on drugs or drinks and my life is at stake.”

Amid the outpouring of grief and condolences from friends, fans, and colleagues in the music industry, one sentiment has been consistently echoed: the loss of such a young and talented artist is deeply saddening.

Nigerian television host and personality, Frank Edoho, expressed his condolences and noted that Mohbad’s voice was remarkably rich and mature for his age, adding to the sober atmosphere surrounding the artist’s passing.

Star singer, Wizkid also shared his disbelief at the death news of the artist. He wrote,

“So hard to believe! Rest in peace Mohbad.”

On the other hand, the deceased’s ex-manager, Naira Marley shared a broken heart emoji on his handle, without any words.

His colleagues, friends and fans have continued to express their shock at his sudden death, wishing him peace and eternal rest.

The singer also left behind a son named Light, who turned five months on the day of his death.

His girlfriend of 10 years and baby mama have also been shattered by his untimely demise.

She wrote,

“This nigga died few minutes after I posted his son’s 5 months birthday, I can’t do this alone.”

She added, “Nothing makes him happy no more. Even after seeing his baby, he became more worried, he is now a family man, he doesn’t want anything to happen to us.

“I was supposed to collect my baby’s passport yesterday so we could process our travelling. He always said to me, Wunmi , please go for my baby’s sake. I wouldn’t want these people to harm you and him, it will break him.
You just go, let me face them myself.

“Ilerioluwa rest in peace…you really need that peace.”

She continued by saying the singer struggled until his death. According to her, he suffered “too much pain,  threatening, he lived in fear, continuous fights everywhere he went, he was never happy for a whole day.

“He was called a junkie, and a mad person so the public could have another view about him.

She concluded by saying,

“He’s dead, at least you all won, take your trophy. Y’all made me a widow at 24 years.”

Recall that colleague and friend of the deceased, Bella Shmurda, confirmed that the ex-Marlian Records signee, once attempted suicide.

In a chat with popular media personality, Chude Jideonwo, Bella Shmurda said Mohbad attempted to commit suicide during his ordeal  but was prevented by friends.

He said,

“There was a time, me and Mohbad were in an apartment and Mohbad was like he wanted to jump from the upstairs because of the issues he was having with his record label.

“We held him by the window. Mohbad had almost jumped, it was his girlfriend that entered the room and saw him sitting down at the window.”

Bella Shmurda said Mohbad went through therapy sessions and hospital for hypertension treatment before he recovered from the issues with Naira Marley.

Mohbad swiftly rose to prominence in the Nigerian music scene. Born on April 8, 1996, in Lagos, Nigeria.

His journey into the music industry began when he joined Marlian Music, a record label founded by Naira Marley.

The breakthrough moment in Mohbad’s career arrived with the release of his hit single titled “Balan Zia Gar.”

This song quickly gained popularity, particularly among street music enthusiasts and fans of Nigerian Afrobeats. It served as a launching pad for his ascent in the music industry.

One of the key contributors to Mohbad’s fame was collaborations with prominent artists.
Notably, he worked with his former label boss, Naira Marley, and together they released the track “Komajensun,” which further solidified his presence in the industry.

However, Mohbad’s most viral hit came with “KPK (Ko Por Ke),” a collaboration with producer Rexxie. This song took the Nigerian music scene by storm, becoming a sensation and garnering massive attention.
