The Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, has refuted social media report alleging that some of it’s operatives who purportedly mounted illegal check points at Badagry Seme border were arrested by Inspector General of Police, IGP Special Squad.
The Comptroller Border Patrol at Seme, Mr Emmanuel Gbemudu, who made this know during an interview with ProwlingEagles, frowned on the allegation.
According to him, none of his men were arrested, stating that “Border patrol has four points, therefore the issue of illegal check points does not arise”.
Speaking on same issue, the Comptroller of Immigration Service, Seme border Command, Douglas Audu said investigation by him reveals that no arrests was made as there is synergy between sister security agencies.
“No immigration personnel were arrested. I saw the whole thing this morning and I was shocked. Border patrol has four check point, it is known to people. the issue of illegal check point does not arise. It is fake news.
“There is no iota of truth in the report. To me that is fake news. Nobody was arrested around or within our corridor. We have done our investigation and found out that nobody was picked. We have two commands here. There is the Seme border command and we have the Lagos state border patrol command. I have made my investigation nobody was arrested from either of the two commands”.
Efforts to confirm the alleged arrest by police from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi did not yield any result.
The team of IGP squad was reported by some online media to have chased and arrested some police officers and some men of the immigration service found at “illegal checkpoints”, believed to have been created purely to extort during a raid.
