The pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has chided the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress for allegedly fuelling the crisis between  Governor Dapo Abiodun and ex-govenor Gbenga Daniel.

Afenifere, in a statement on Tuesday by its Organising Secretary, Kole Omololu, frowned on a recent statement by the Ogun APC, in which the party took sides with Abiodun and allegedly called Daniel unprintable names.

But the Ogun APC, in a fresh statement on Tuesday by its Secretary, Aderibigbe Tella, knocked Afenifere, describing the organisation’s intervention as biased.

Afenifere, in its statement, expressed “utter dismay at a press statement issued by the Ogun State Chapter of the APC, in a reaction to an interview recently granted by Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.” https://live.primis-amp.tech/content/video/amp/videoIframe.php?s=113240#amp=1

Omololu said, “We (Afenifere) take grave exception to divisive language the Ogun APC used in its press statement. Even though the two illustrious sons of Ogun State may disagree on some issues, the approach of Ogun APC, as shown in its press statement, is grossly unethical and utterly unacceptable.”

Rather than fuelling the crisis between the two APC chieftains, Afenifere called on the Ogun APC to “deploy the party’s conflict resolution mechanism and goodwill to make peace between the governor and one of his illustrious predecessors.”

“We hereby warn Ogun APC, its State Working Committee and State Executive Committee to desist from causing and deepening division in the ranks of its elected officials. If the SWC lacks the capacity to promote peaceful co-existence among its elected officials statewide, it should, in the overall interests of our people, restrain from taking action that will complicate differences among the leaders,” Afenifere said

But responding in a statement by its secretary, the Ogun APC accused Afenifere of biased, saying “it is our belief that the reaction of Afenifere was spurred and sponsored by Daniel, who never expected the avalanche of reactions that have greeted his syndicated and ill-motivated interview by well-meaning individuals and groups.”

The Ogun APC advised Afenifere to “put its fragmented house in order and not attempt to support indiscipline and treachery  in APC, the type of indulgence that has turned Afenifere to a ghost of its noble past.”

“Afenifere should remove the log in it’s eyes rather than looking at non-existing specs in APC’s,” Tella said.
