The Deeper Life High School, Lagos Campus, Mowe, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Monday, celebrated its student, Kamsiyochukwu Umeh, who scored the highest mark of 360 in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Umeh is the Joint Admission Matriculation Board approved and announced candidate with the best result nationally.
Another student of the school, Andrew Imokhugede, had 355 marks and was the 10th-best student nationally. DLHS celebrated the duo alongside its two students; Alagwu David, who scored 351, and Esin Enobong, who scored 350.
Speaking at the event which also had parents, and teachers of the school in attendance, Pastor Williams Kumuyi, who was represented by the church Architect, Mr Kayode Dada, said the aim of the school was to transform the children and make them the best in all aspects of life.
He said, “When DLHS was to commence, General Superintendent, said its aim was to make the children distinguished and number one in greatness.”
Executive Secretary, DLHS, Thelma Malaka, said she was elated because DLHS had a unique foundation, saying integrity was one of the core values of the school.
“We have zero tolerance for malpractice and we have the God factor, we must not take God out of our schools and discipline is another factor.”
Malaka advised the Nigerian government to hold on to the values of discipline, and hard work, adding that the government should invest more in education.
Also speaking, Administrator, DLHS, Mr Emmanuel Eze, explained that nationwide, DLSH presented a total of 894 students from 21 campuses out of which 131 students scored 300 and above.
He said, “Umeh’s score and the outstanding performance of other students in the examination did not come as a surprise to the management of Deeper Life High School because our teachers had taught and prepared them sufficiently for the examination.”
16-year-old Umeh said, “When I got into SS three last year, we were told about the UTME examination and we were given past questions. When I first opened the past questions, the questions looked difficult and I was afraid, even a day before the exam I was nervous. But we had a prayer meeting and I felt calmer. On the day of the exam, I was happy because it was simpler than I envisage.”
