The Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Wahab Alawiye-King, has been named winner of the inaugural Award of Excellence in Educational Reforms organised by an online media platform, Lagos Monitoring Team.
The organiser, in a statement on Sunday, said Alawiye-King, clinched the award on the strength of “his outstanding performance as LASUBEB chairman and the reforms he initiated to reposition primary education in the state.”
The statement quoted LMT Editor, Mr Tunde Opeseitan, as saying, “Since your emergence as Chairman of LASUBEB, we have observed your passion and tireless commitment towards ensuring that pupils in our schools receive the best education possible.
“It is safe to conclude that you have a knack for excellent service delivery and you have embarked on novel initiatives that have redefined primary education, not only in Lagos, but across the country.”
The editor added that the “EKO Excellence in Child Education and Learning programme, popularly known as Eko Excel,” has continued to earn local and global accolades under Alawiye-King’s supervision.
The programme, according to Opeseitan, earns these accolades for fostering a 21st Century education that is child-centred and enabled by modern practices and technology.
Alawiye-King was voted unanimously for the award by the Awards Committee, according to the statement.
Responding, Alawiye-King commended LMT for the award, saying that it would spur him to continue to work in the best interest of pupils in primary schools in the state.
“For us, education is a powerful tool that can be used to change the world. We believe access, equity, and most importantly quality are some of the things you need to improve primary education in Nigeria and that is what we have been doing,” the LASUBEB chair said.
