European Union foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell commented on the situation via a post on X (formerly Twitter), indicating that he would work with the EU’s 27 member states to promote a common position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on a two-state solution.

Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir also criticized the recognition. During his first visit since October 7 to the Temple Mount in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, Ben Gvir accused the European countries of rewarding “murderers and aggressors.”

Hamas cited visits to this site as one of the reasons for its October attack, which it referred to as “Al-Aqsa Flood.”
