In a recent statement, Chief Goddy Uwazurike, the former President of the Igbo socio-cultural organisation Aka Ikenga, has expressed concern over the growing marginalisation of the Igbo people in Nigeria, as reported by Vanguard.
In a recent interview, Chief Uwazurike stated that this marginalisation has become an official policy in the country.
Chief Uwazurike pointed out that the marginalisation began under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He stated that the Igbo were not included in the government during Buhari’s tenure.
Despite this, the Igbo community continued to progress and adapt to the challenging political situation.
When President Bola Tinubu took office, Chief Uwazurike noted that the situation did not improve.
Instead, he said, Tinubu’s government continued the pattern of exclusion that began under Buhari.
This exclusion is evident in recent key appointments made by President Tinubu, where no individual from the South South or South East regions was included.
According to Chief Uwazurike, this has left the Igbo people feeling disenchanted and disconnected from the current administration.
Chief Uwazurike also addressed the decision for the Igbo not to participate in the #EndBadGovernance protest, which aimed to address the widespread dissatisfaction with governance in Nigeria.
He explained that the Igbo people felt excluded from the government and its decisions, leading them to believe that the protest was not their concern.
Since they were not part of the government, they felt that whether the government performed well or poorly did not affect them directly.
