Nigeria, Port Harcourt – The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 16, Yenagoa comprising Bayelsa and Rivers State Police Commands, AIG Paul Alifa Omata on Thursday, 2nd May, 2024 commended the crime fighting efforts of Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Disu.
The AIG, made this commendation when he paid visit to the Rivers State Police Command on Thursday.
AIG Omata, accompanied by three Deputy Commissioners of Police, one Assistant Commissioner of Police, the Zonal PPRO, heads of Tactical Units and other senior officers was received by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu PSC and his Management Team, other senior Police officers and men of the command.
In his remarks, as stated by the command spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, AIG lauded CP Disu and officers of the command on their numerous achievements in the areas of crime fighting which have been brought to the nearest minimum in the state.
He stated that crime fighting in Rivers State which has a metropolitan city is no mean task.
AIG Omata said he came to Rivers State to formally introduce himself as the AIG Zone 16 so that Officers and men of Rivers State Command would know him and further congratulated the CP for the Award of Excellence bestowed on him as the best performing command Commissioner of Police of the year 2024.
The AIG noted that Rivers State is moving very well in terms of crime fighting and his duty is to supervise the Commissioners Police and officers and men in both Bayelsa and Rivers State Commands respectfully.
He encouraged them to do more by stepping up the game of Policing so that the people of Rivers State can sleep with their two eyes closed and go about their normal businesses.
The AIG urged officers and men of the command to continue to abide by the ethics of the job and shun all forms of professional misconduct capable of bringing the good image of the Police to disrepute.
He underscored the fact that Policing society is not a one-man business but a collective responsibility of all stakeholders. We must up our game on intelligence to effectively nip crime in the bud.
The Police chief warned officers and men of the command against all forms of corruption, and improper dressing as the Police Force has a standard dressing code and we must all abide by it and the spirit of esprit de corps must be sustained.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc, thanked the AIG on his epoch-making visit to Rivers State Command.
He disclosed that the command was happy to receive him.
The CP informed the AIG that officers and men of the command are working together as one indivisible family.
Those who need encouragement are always encouraged and there is no limit in Rivers State in terms of fighting crime and criminality a lot more has been learnt from the invaluable lecture of the AIG which will spur us to do more.
The Crime buster said Rivers State is one of the strategic economic hubs of the country with ten Area Commands and Seventy Divisions.
According to CP, on assumption of office, he went around to assess the security situation of the state and drew a template for crime fighting and this has paid off.
On behalf of officers and men of the command, CP Disu thanked the IGP for the Award of Best Performing Command Commissioner and further noted that the Award was not only for him, but for the entire command whose numerous contributions earned him the Award.
He informed the AIG of some of the challenges faced by the command which he listed as shortage of manpower, anti-riot equipment, armoured personnel carriers, and barracks accommodation amongst others and requested the AIG to look into these needs.
On the killing of some Police officers in the command, the CP assured the AIG that the perpetrators of this reprehensible act will not go scot-free as they will be brought to face justice.
