The Global Marine and Shipping Community which comprises BIMCO, ICS, INTER CARGO, INTERTANKO and OCIMF has described the four – year tenure of the immediate past Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh as eventful replete with positive landmark achievements.
The Global Marine and Shipping Community, controls the world’s shipping trade, said it was excited by the tenured of tfe former NIMASA DG which it said had a significant impact on global shipping.
According to the letter written to Dr Jamoh on March 20th, 2024 and signed by the officials of the shipping community, they praised the former NIMASA DG over some of the policies and programmes he midwifed during his tenure.
Specifically, they mentioned the SPOMO Act, the Deep Blue project while Jamoh’s personal leadership in establishing the Maritime Collaboration Framework (MCF)/ SHADE- GULF of Guinea (GoG) and NIMASA/Industry Joint Working Group(NIJWG) which they said are his testament to his achievements while in office.
The appreciative global Shippers said they enjoy peace , safety and security at sea during the tenure of Jamoh which they said witnessed reduced incidents of attacks on vessels, killing and kidnapping of Seafarers.
” In behalf of the Global Marine and Shipping Community, the signatories of this letter wish to convey their sincere heartfelt thanks for all you achieved during your tenure as the Director General of NIMASA.
” There are many milestones worth noticing but the introduction of SPOMO Act, the Deep Blue project and your personal leadership in establishing the Maritime Collaboration Framework (MCF) SHADE- Gulf of Guinea (GoG) and the NIMASA Joint Working Group (NIJWG) are testament to your legacy.
” We know you would not wish this to stop and will do all we can to maintain the momentum you created.
” The numbers of attacks against vessels offshore and kidnapping and killing of Seafarers is significantly reduced due to the attention you gave to protecting Seafarers.
” We wish you much success and happiness going forward” .
An elated Jamoh said he was thrilled by the commendation letter which he attributed to dedication, patriotism and team work.
He therefore said he was very proud of his team NIMASA and dedicated the commendation letter to them without whom he said the feat could not have been achieved
“I am thrilled to receive this commendation letter from the Global Marine Community upon successful completion of my term in office as DG/CEO of NIMASA.
“It is the result of dedication, patriotism and team work. I am appreciative to my team and dedicated the commendation to them, without whom this cannot be achieved” Jamoh declared.
Dr Jamoh was the Director General of NIMASA from March 2020 to March, 2024
