The Pioneer Bishop of Diocese of Yewa Methodist Church Nigeria, Ogun State, Bishop Charles Adeniyi, has canvassed urgent need for the establishment of more schools and hospitals in rural areas in the state.
The cleric also urged the state government and individuals to invest heavily in agriculture to provide raw materials for industries and ensure food security for the population.
Adeniyi said this at the first synod of the diocese, held in Ilaro, Yewa-South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
A communiqué jointly signed by Synod Secretary, Sunday Ajayi, David Kojeku, and the Bishop of the Diocese, begged the government to return additional schools to religious institutions.
“Synod views with concern, the deplorable state of roads in and out of Yewa land which make commuters groan daily while plying these roads. Sincerely, government should have done more! We plead with the state government and our political office holders representing Ogun West to make road construction in Yewa axis a priority when planning for the next line of action.
“The importance of establishing more schools and hospitals in our rural areas cannot be overemphasised. Many lives have been lost, hope dashed, talents buried because of lack of these amenities.
“Synod observes that since the return of missionary schools to their original owners, academic performances have improved, moral decadence has reduced and their co-existence with government schools has brought the desired competition. Therefore, the government needs to explore avenues for returning additional schools to religious institutions.”
