Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, has praised former President Goodluck Jonathan for his actions during the 2015 presidential election. Ozekhome said that Jonathan made a significant gesture by calling General Muhammadu Buhari to congratulate him, even before the final vote count was completed and a winner officially declared.

In a live coverage by Symfoni TV, Ozekhome said despite pressure from many of his associates, who advised him not to concede, Jonathan chose to prioritize peace over his political ambition. He said Jonathan made it clear that his political ambition was not worth the life or blood of any Nigerian.

Ozekhome likened Jonathan to other great figures in Nigerian history, such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

In Ozekhome’s words: “During 2015 elections when votes were still being counted and the winner had not been declared, Jonathan called General Buhari and said congratulations. In spite of the fact that many of his associates were saying don’t do so, Jonathan said my ambition is not worth the drop of blood of any Nigerian. That statement Sir, entrenched you into the pantheon of heroes like General President Olusegun Obasanjo”
