Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has cancelled the 10, 000 jobs in the State Civil Service approved by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Fubar stated that a more transparent fresh recruitment process would commence soon.
The governor stated this during an interactive session with stakeholders in Port Harcourt, on Friday, May 31, The Punch reports.
He said he cancelled the recruitment because the process was flawed and compromised by those entrusted to handle it.
The FCT minister, Wike, had approved the immediate employment of a significant number of youths to fill existing vacancies in the state’s workforce, effective immediately before leaving office as Rivers governor in May 2023.
As reported by Daily Trust, Fubara said beneficiaries of the scheme were smuggled in for political patronage.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Fubara announced that he fully began governing in February 2024, eight months after taking office, due to political turmoil involving his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Since then, Fubara has made significant progress in governance, receiving commendations for his efforts.
The governor emphasised his commitment to transparency, efficient service delivery, and maintaining comprehensive records of all government activities.
